Many feared killed as fire guts Lagos community

There has been a fire outbreak at Ijegun, Lagos state after suspected thugs destroyed pipelines of the NNPC and many are supposedly dead.

This incidence took place earlier this morning, proper details of the incidence have not been told, but a correspondent from Punch got information that, some of the thugs were also consumed in the outbreak and are presumed dead.

According to Babajide Lawal, an eyewitness, the noise made from the outbreak was what woke the people in that area.

There is fire incident at Ijegun Last Bus Stop, in fact, no one can move near the place because the whole area is burning. What woke us up was the sound of the explosion and when we came out to observe what happened, we saw the fire burning everywhere”, Babajide Lawal narrated.

Lagos State Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency sent their fire fighters to the location of incidence.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the National Emergency Management Agency , south west zone, spokesman, said the management of NNPC have been notified of the incidence.

He said they have also informed corporation’s safety unit to stop further supplies going through pipelines, so as to stop the fire.

He also said people should not panic as security agencies have segregated the area to block entry of unpleasant components.

Amodu Shakiru, a Lagos State Fire Service official said he could not make any statement then as the fire fighters were still struggling to put out the fire.
